January at QANC
Dear Neighbor,
Happy New Year! We wish you a joyful and prosperous 2026.
Kwanzaa
Thanks to the lessons taught by our talented Watoto, we have started the New Year guided by the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
Our youth truly shined at this year’s performance. They showcased their creativity and talent alongside the Nzinga Daughters through powerful dance, and brought a special youth-written, youth-performed play to life on stage.
Their collaboration and collective spirit beautifully embodied the Kwanzaa principle of Umoja (Unity). The show was a powerful reminder of what our youth–and communities–can accomplish when they work together.
Our Guest, Mayor Sanchez
When we heard that Mayor Sanchez was planning on attending the Kwanzaa Performance, we were ecstatic! He came a bit early to meet the kids before the show and congratulate them on their effort.
He even started the show with some inspiring opening remarks, sharing:
“It’s wonderful to gather as a community to honor the seven principles of Kwanzaa and the rich traditions that guide us—unity, purpose, creativity, and collective strength.
Thank you for supporting this celebration of culture, heritage and community. Thank you to Dayna Snell and to Queen Ann Nzinga Center, I want to be up here and dance along with you! Happy Kwanzaa everyone.”
What an honor–thank you for supporting our work, Mayor Sanchez!
