Volunteers

Though Watoto will now take a summer break, we are hard at work behind the scenes to make next year’s program the best yet. We can’t do this without your help!

We are seeking volunteers in the following areas:

  • Event planning & management

  • Food & program supply donations

  • Board membership

If you’re interested in helping out, please get in touch with Julie at info@qanc.org.

Nzinga’s Daughters

Nzinga’s Daughters will be performing their signature Underground Railroad program, which invites the audience to experience the creativity, ingenuity, and perseverance of African-American slaves in their efforts to shepard runaway slaves to safety. The performance explores the elaborate system of communication used to help lead others to freedom, including embedding coded messages into the verses of Negro spirituals.

The Daughters will be performing at the Congregational Church of Plainville as part of their C.C.P. Presents… concert series. No tickets are required, but audience members are able to make a free will offering to the church’s Save our Steeple Fund. The details of the concert are as follows:

  • Sunday, June 8, 2025

  • 3:00 PM  6:30 PM

  • Congregational Church of Plainville

  • 130 West Main St, Plainville, CT

We hope to see you there!

Juneteenth
Our 3rd annual Juneteenth Celebration is just around the corner! With our partners at  the Plainville Human Relations Community Collaborative, we will be featuring local artists and speakers to honor our ancestors and their struggle for freedom. We’ll be embracing the true meaning of community as we invite local retailers and chefs to share their offerings with us as we celebrate at Veterans’s Memorial Park.

This event is open to everyone–we are a stronger community when we gather together and uplift each other. We hope to see you there! Information below:
